Flights to Puerto Escondido in 2026: Routes and Options
Direct flights from Houston, Dallas and Vancouver, connections via Mexico City, and the Huatulco and Oaxaca backups: getting to Puerto Escondido as of November 2026.
For most North American buyers, the honest first question about Puerto Escondido is not price. It is: how hard is this place to get to, and can I own a home here without living here? The answer has changed a lot since 2025. Puerto Escondido now has direct flights from the United States and Canada, and the domestic network through Mexico City covers most of the rest.
This guide lays out the routes as of November 2026, the backup options, and what connectivity means for owning a second home remotely. Routes change often, so confirm with the airline before you book. We do not quote fares.
The airport: Puerto Escondido International (PXM)
Puerto Escondido International Airport (code PXM) sits in town, not an hour away. Its management told Aviation Week in March 2026 that it handled close to one million passengers in 2025. A new terminal is under construction and has passed 80% progress. We do not give an opening date.
As of November 2026, these nonstop routes are confirmed by airline or official announcements:
- Houston (IAH), United: Puerto Escondido's first international route, launched in April 2025.
- Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), American: launched in December 2025, announced as year-round, twice weekly.
- Vancouver (YVR), Air Canada: new for winter 2026–27, from December 7, 2026 to April 10, 2027, four flights a week, according to Oaxaca's tourism ministry.
Two Canadian routes flew last winter and need checking before you plan around them:
- Toronto (YYZ), Air Canada: a weekly seasonal flight operated from December 2025 to April 2026. Check the 2026–27 schedule.
- Calgary (YYC), WestJet: a weekly winter flight launched in December 2025. WestJet's 2026–27 sun announcement does not mention it.
Connecting through Mexico City and other hubs
From most of the US and Canada, the reliable path is a connection. Mexico City is the main one: Aeroméxico, Volaris and Viva all fly Mexico City (AICM) to Puerto Escondido, and Volaris lists the flight at about 1 hour 15 minutes. Viva also flies from Mexico City's second airport, Felipe Ángeles (AIFA).
Other domestic gateways with nonstop service to Puerto Escondido:
| Gateway | Airlines to PXM | Useful for |
|---|---|---|
| Mexico City (AICM) | Aeroméxico, Volaris, Viva | Most US and Canadian cities |
| Guadalajara (GDL) | Volaris, Viva | West Coast and Midwest connections |
| Monterrey (MTY) | Viva | Texas and central US connections |
| Tijuana (TIJ) | Volaris, three times a week | Southern California, via the cross-border terminal |
| Puebla (PBC) | Volaris, from December 1, 2026 | Mostly domestic travelers |
Two practical points. Mexico City has two airports, AICM and AIFA, and they are not interchangeable on a tight connection. And build in a real buffer on the way down, especially if you switch airlines.
Huatulco (HUX) is about 100 km away, roughly two hours by Federal Highway 200. It is a fallback when PXM schedules do not work. Plan the drive in daylight.
Oaxaca City (OAX) connects to the coast by the Barranca Larga–Ventanilla highway, a 104 km road opened on February 4, 2024. Officials said it cut the Oaxaca–Puerto Escondido drive from more than six and a half hours to about two and a half. In 2026 there were reports of unrepaired landslides, single-lane sections and road blockades, so check conditions before you go.
Why this matters if you are buying
Visiting is now a weekend decision, not an expedition
With direct flights from Houston, Dallas and, in winter, Vancouver, a quick inspection trip, a closing or a maintenance check no longer takes a week. That matters most in the first year of ownership, when things need deciding on site.
Remote ownership is realistic, but it is still ownership
We have closed purchases entirely remotely: video tours, document review, contracts signed on recognized e-signature platforms, and a power of attorney or electronic signature for the deed depending on the case. After closing, someone has to handle salt air, rain season and guests. Our buyer's guide and our complete guide to buying in Puerto Escondido cover both sides.
Rentals and resale
More routes widen the pool of people who can rent your home and, later, buy it. They do not guarantee either. Routes get cut: Volaris suspended Tijuana–Puerto Escondido in January 2024 and only brought it back in June 2026. Legal status, location and management weigh more on value than any single flight.
When flights should change your decision
What we would tell a friend: the Canadian nonstops are winter-only, so if you can only travel in summer, plan on a Mexico City connection and price that into how often you will really come. If you need to be able to get home within a day at any time, for family or work, test the full door-to-door trip once before you buy, not after. And if a listing's appeal depends on a route that started this season, discount that argument.
"Ask yourself how often you will realistically fly down. Buyers who answer that question honestly pick better neighborhoods and better properties," says Antoine Volatier, founder of Ocean Puerto, settled year-round in Puerto Escondido since 2019, with more than 100 sales.
How we help
- We plan viewings around your flights, grouped by area, so a short trip covers the right options.
- Every one of our properties shows its legal status: escritura pública (a registered deed), acta de posesión (a possession certificate on communal land), or both.
- We work with independent notaries and lawyers.
- Buyers pay no commission to us. It is included in the price.

Questions
Which cities have direct flights to Puerto Escondido?
As of November 2026: Houston (United), Dallas/Fort Worth (American) and, from December 7, 2026 to April 10, 2027, Vancouver (Air Canada). In Mexico: Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Tijuana and, from December 1, 2026, Puebla.
Do I have to connect through Mexico City?
Not from Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth or, in winter, Vancouver. From most other US and Canadian cities, yes, or through Guadalajara or Monterrey.
Can I fly into Huatulco instead?
Yes. Huatulco airport (HUX) is about 100 km from Puerto Escondido, roughly two hours by Federal Highway 200. Plan the drive in daylight.
When will the new Puerto Escondido airport terminal open?
The new terminal has passed 80% progress. We do not give an opening date.
Do better flight connections increase property values?
They widen the pool of potential renters and future buyers, but they guarantee nothing. Routes can be cut, and legal status, location and management weigh more on value.
